Vespasian ( 17 November AD 9 – 24 June 79) . He founded the Flavian dynasty that ruled the Empire for 27 years.

Vespasian was the first emperor who hailed from an equestrian family, and only rose into the senatorial rank as the first member of his family later in his lifetime. Vespasian’s renown came from his military success; he was legate of Legio II Augusta during the Roman invasion of Britain in 43
While Vespasian besieged Jerusalem during the Jewish rebellion, emperor Nero committed suicide and plunged Rome into a year of civil war known as the Year of the Four Emperors. After Galba and Otho perished in quick succession, Vitellius became emperor in April 69. The Roman legions of Roman Egypt and Judaea reacted by declaring Vespasian, their commander, emperor on 1 July 69.In his bid for imperial power, Vespasian joined forces with Mucianus, the governor of Syria, and Primus, a general in Pannonia, leaving his son Titus to command the besieging forces at Jerusalem. Primus and Mucianus led the Flavian forces against Vitellius, while Vespasian took control of Egypt. On 20 December 69, Vitellius was defeated, and the following day Vespasian was declared emperor by the Senate.

Hermes was the ancient Greek god of trade, wealth, luck, fertility, animal husbandry, sleep, language, thieves, and travel. One of the cleverest and most mischievous of the Olympian gods, he was the patron of shepherds, invented the lyre, and was, above all, the herald and messenger of Mt. Olympus so that he came to symbolise the crossing of boundaries in his role as a guide between the two realms of gods and humanity. To the Romans, the god was known as Mercury.

Hermes has a very long history, being mentioned in the Linear B tablets of the Mycenaean civilization, at its height from the 15th to 13th century BCE.
Hermes was credited with inventing fire, the alphabet, dice (actually knucklebones) – and so he was worshipped by gamblers in his capacity as god of luck and wealth, and musical instruments, in particular, the lyre – made from a tortoiseshell by the god. Hermes was regarded as the patron of thieves and shepherds thanks to his invention of the pan pipes (syrinx). He was the patron of travellers, and stone pillars (hermae) with a phallus symbol were often to be seen set up along roadsides to act as guides and offer good fortune to those who passed. Hermae were particularly set up at boundaries, reminding of the god’s role as a messenger between the gods and humanity, as well as his function as a guide for the dead into the next life. In addition, Hermes was regarded as the patron of the home, and people often built small marble stelai in front of their doors in his honour.
Famous for his diplomatic skills, he was also regarded as the patron of languages and rhetoric. Orators regarded the god who transferred words from sender to receiver as their patron, as did interpreters (another group of boundary-crossers) and, even today, the study and interpretation of texts carries his name: hermeneutics.

In this silver pendant is set an authentic Roman silver coin (Victoriatus) from the 3rd century. BC, which depicts the head of Jupiter with a laurel wreath . In the back, there is a winged Victory.

Jupiter is usually thought to have originated as an aerial god. His identifying implement is the thunderbolt and his primary sacred animal is the eagle, which held precedence over other birds in the taking of auspices and became one of the most common symbols of the Roman army . The two emblems were often combined to represent the god in the form of an eagle holding in its claws a thunderbolt, frequently seen on Greek and Roman coins. As the sky-god, he was a divine witness to oaths, the sacred trust on which justice and good government depend. Many of his functions were focused on the Capitoline Hill, where the citadel was located. In the Capitoline Triad, he was the central guardian of the state with Juno and Minerva. His sacred tree was the oak.

A small Greek coin date back to the 4th cent BC ,depicting Venus, has been set in this sterling silver ring; Dionysus in the other side of the coin.
Aphrodite is an ancient Greek goddess associated with love, beauty, pleasure, passion and procreation. She was syncretized with the Roman goddess Venus. Aphrodite’s major symbols include myrtles, roses, doves, sparrows, and swans. The cult of Aphrodite was largely derived from that of the Phoenician goddess Astarte, a cognate of the East Semitic goddess Ishtar, whose cult was based on the Sumerian cult of Inanna. Aphrodite’s main cult centers were Cythera, Cyprus, Corinth, and Athens. Her main festival was the Aphrodisia, which was celebrated annually in midsummer. In Laconia, Aphrodite was worshipped as a warrior goddess. She was also the patron goddess of prostitutes, an association which led early scholars to propose the concept of “sacred prostitution” in Greco-Roman culture, an idea which is now generally seen as erroneous.

In Hesiod’s Theogony, Aphrodite is born off the coast of Cythera from the foam (αφρός aphrós) produced by Uranus’s genitals, which his son Cronus has severed and thrown into the sea. In Homer’s Iliad, however, she is the daughter of Zeus and Dione. Plato, in his Symposium 180e, asserts that these two origins actually belong to separate entities: Aphrodite Ourania (a transcendent, “Heavenly” Aphrodite) and Aphrodite Pandemos (Aphrodite common to “all the people”). Aphrodite had many other epithets, each emphasizing a different aspect of the same goddess, or used by a different local cult. Thus she was also known as Cytherea (Lady of Cythera) and Cypris (Lady of Cyprus), because both locations claimed to be the place of her birth.

In Greek mythology, Aphrodite was married to Hephaestus, the god of fire, blacksmiths and metalworking. Aphrodite was frequently unfaithful to him and had many lovers; in the Odyssey, she is caught in the act of adultery with Ares, the god of war. In the First Homeric Hymn to Aphrodite, she seduces the mortal shepherd Anchises. Aphrodite was also the surrogate mother and lover of the mortal shepherd Adonis, who was killed by a wild boar. Along with Athena and Hera, Aphrodite was one of the three goddesses whose feud resulted in the beginning of the Trojan War and she plays a major role throughout the Iliad. Aphrodite has been featured in Western art as a symbol of female beauty and has appeared in numerous works of Western literature. She is a major deity in modern Neopagan religions, including the Church of Aphrodite, Wicca, and Hellenismos.

Capricorn, was a creature with the heads and front legs of a goat, and the body and tail of fish.
Capricorn is a representation of Ea (previously known as Enki). Ea was the incredibly virile god of water who lived under the ocean. He was associated with knowledge, creation, magic, and mischief and represented by a sea goat.
When the Greeks adopted the zodiac, they changed a few things. And, these days we consider Capricorn is a grounded earth sign and a determined cardinal sign that is ruled by Saturn, the father of the Greek Gods.

Pegasus (Greek: Πήγασος, Pḗgasos; Latin: Pegasus, Pegasos) is a mythical winged divine horse, and one of the most recognized creatures in Greek mythology. Usually depicted as pure white, Pegasus is the offspring of the Olympian god Poseidon. He was foaled by the Gorgon Medusa
Pegasus was caught by the Greek hero Bellerophon, near the fountain Peirene, with the help of Athena and Poseidon. Pegasus allowed Bellerophon to ride him in order to defeat the monstrous Chimera, which led to many other exploits. Bellerophon later fell from the winged horse’s back while trying to reach Mount Olympus. Afterwards, Zeus transformed Pegasus into the eponymous constellation.

In this bracelet, in sterling silver, an authentic Roman coin from the 1st century BC has been set, which depicts the “dextrarum iunctio”, or two right hands shaking: in ancient Rome, in addition to being the typical gesture of the two spouses after marriage, this gesture meant harmony, affinity, friendship and loyalty. On the other side of the coin we can see the depiction of the Pietas.
The depiction of the dextrarum iunctio was highly popular in Roman art. In the Roman world, the right hand was sacred to Fides, the deity of fidelity. The clasping of the right hand was a solemn gesture of mutual fidelity and loyalty at the conclusion of an agreementor contract, the taking of an oath of allegiance, or reception in the mysteries, whose initiates were referred to as syndexioi (“joined by theright hand”).
On a second-century coin Antoninus Pius (ad 86–161) and Faustina are shown clasping each other’s right hand in the dextrarum iunctio.

A Roman coin from the 2nd century AD, depicting emperor Hadrian, has been set in this sterling silver bracelet, made entirely by hand by our goldsmiths.
The backside of the bracelet ends with two very important symbols in Roman history: Solomon’s knot and the alpha and omega Christogram. For the Romans, Solomon’s knot was a symbol of everlasting union: two rings intertwined, inseparable, an eternal bond, despite the perpetual changing of all things.
It was a fundamental decorative symbol, expression of distant worlds but united by the same strength: we find traces of it in the mosaics of ancient Ostia and of Pompeii.
The Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, symbol of Christianity, was used by the emperors who converted to Christianity. Constantine in 315 placed the Christogram on a medallion of the mint of Pavia. After Constantine’s death, this symbol was used by Constant, Constantine’s only son to have been baptized.

Hadrian is remembered for his travels, his building projects, and his efforts to tie together the far-flung outposts of the Roman empire. He was a well-educated aesthete who left behind several poems. Signs of his reign remain in a number of buildings, including the Temple of Rome and Venus, and he rebuilt the Pantheon, which had been destroyed by a fire during the reign of his predecessor.
His own country residence, Villa Adriana, outside Rome, is considered the architectural epitome of the opulence and elegance of the Roman world. Covering seven square miles, it was more of a garden city than a villa, including baths, libraries, sculpture gardens, theaters, alfresco dining halls, pavilions, and private suites, portions of which survived to modern times. It was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1999. Hadrian’s tomb, now called the Castel Sant’Angelo in Rome, became a burial place for succeeding emperors and was converted into a fortress in the 5th century.

This 18 Kt gold ring features a Roman carnelian intaglio depicting the Goddess Fortuna with rudder and cornucopia, which dates back to the 2nd century AD.
Fortuna was originally an Italic fertility goddess, literally a bearer of fertility. According to tradition, she was venerated since the reign of the legendary Anco Marzio and her cult was formally introduced by Servius Tullius. She had a temple in the Foro Boario and a sanctuary at the Quirinale. Her name seems to derive from the Etruscan divinity Voltumna- ‘she who turns the year’.
As Fortuna she personifies not only fortune or fortune (of the emperor, the people or the entire Roman state), but also the balance between prosperity and misfortune. She is also identified with Tyche, the Greek goddess of chance. Her attributes include a rudder (emblem of a fortuitous guide) and a cornucopia (horn of plenty).

A 1st century Roman engraved stone has been set in this beautiful 18 kt gold ring, a heliotrope, depicting a winged Cupid with his attributes: bow and arrow! Heliotrope, also known as bloodstone, is a cryptocrystalline blended quartz. The name heliotrope derives from various ancient notions about how the mineral reflects light. These notions are solved, for example, by Pliny the Elder (Nat. Hist. 37.165).
Ancient Roman soldiers believed that the stone had the ability to slow bleeding and wore it for this reason (which may have a scientific basis in the fact that the iron oxide, contained in the stone, is an effective astringent). stone as an amulet for longevity, wealth and courage, to strengthen the stomach and to dispel melancholy, Ancient Greeks and Romans wore the stone for fame and favor, to be resistant and as a spell against the bite of poisonous creatures. Greek and Roman athletes favored it as a talisman for success in their games. Cupid is engraved on the stone.

The Romans called him Cupid, from the Latin word cupidus: eager. The Greeks Eros. He was also revered as a god of fertility. In later mythology Eros is the son of Aphrodite and Ares. Sometimes Eros is the personified of all attractions that evoke heterosexual and homosexual love and desire. He is usually depicted as a beautiful young winged boy, with his bow and arrows that he shoots into the hearts of gods or mortals to arouse desire in them. According to a legend, he too fell in love with the young mortal Psyche.
