These gold, lapis lazuli and micromosaic earrings (mid 19th century) depict two Roman monuments : the Cestius Pyramid and the Colosseum ! They come from the Vatican Mosaic Studio that started up in 1727.  For most Grand Tour travelers, Rome was the last stop of the trip. Its squares and monuments have been immortalized by numerous artist in paintings and sculptures as well as small masterpieces such as micro mosaics in which, besides objects of classic inspiration, reproductions are created of sights, common life, animals, flowers.
